Getting started and workflow

We talk to discuss your needs (via phone, email, Skype, or in person).

We nail down the specifics regarding your image specs.

We agree on terms, timing, and pricing, and sign a contract (pricing is typically on a per-image basis, depending on complexity)

You provide a complete shot list, including detailed instructions for each image. If you are shipping your products to me, I will provide a PDF form to walk you through this. If I am coming to you, things won’t need to be clarified to the same degree, since you will be there to direct me.

After the shoot I provide you with every photo to review and make your choices (this is done online using a the Pixieset.com proofing software). You make your initial choices and I start processing. We continue tweaking things until you are satisfied, and then you download the finished files.

I bring my studio to you

ADVANTAGES

You will direct and oversee every shot, and be able to preview images live and make changes.

You will have access to all your products, and can swap things in and out, decide to add or skip certain shot angles, and fuss over every detail.

You won’t have any shipping expenses.

DISADVANTAGES

You must have a space large enough for all of my equipment, and we must be able to make the space relatively dark.

It takes quite a bit of time to set up the studio equipment and then break it down at the end of the shoot.

Available hours may be limited, so the entire shoot may take longer.

You will be responsible for additional travel, lodging, and meal expenses.

You ship your products to my studio

ADVANTAGES

No setup or breakdown time is required—my studio is always ready to go.

Because lighting is preset and controlled, absolute consistency is ensured (not to say that consistency can’t be maintained at your site, it’s just easier here at home).

There are no time limitations, so I can shoot for as long as I need to in order to get the job done.

There are no travel, lodging, or meal expenses for you!

I can work in my pajamas (which may also be appropriate if I come to you, but probably not).

You will not have any travel, lodging, or meal expenses.

DISADVANTAGES

You will not be able to oversee every shot, which will require extra planning, and may delay things if additional products need to be shipped to me.

You will not be able to see the draft images live (although, with technology, you can see them quickly, perhaps within an hour or two)

You will have to pay for shipping your products, both to me and then back to you.

You bring your products...and stay with us

A happy hybrid option is for you to bring your products to me, and oversee everything right here in my studio. We can tweak shots in the studio and then go over the results in my office in real time. My wife and I run and Airbnb, so lodging may even be available for a very reasonable price. We can accomodate up to six people—and we’ll even toss in breakfast.
